Banks Developments have submitted plans for a windfarm near Marr to Doncaster Council – shaped by feedback from local residents.
The scheme, which the firm estimate will provide enough power for up to 6,500 homes without the production of any green house gases, met with a lukewarm response when it was unveiled at a public exhibition in September last year.
But since then the number of proposed turbines has been reduced to four and the distance of the turbines from the village has been increased after consultations with the local community.
Project manager Rob Williams, of Banks Developments, said: “Harnessing energy from wind is the most proven form of renewable electricity generation in the UK, and therefore provides the most immediate way of reducing carbon dioxide emissions and providing secure indigenous electricity supplies.
“The proposed wind farm south of Marr is on a small scale, with a maximum of four turbines planned for the site, but it still has the potential to meet the area’s renewable energy targets until the end of the decade.”
The scheme includes proposals for a Marr Community Development Fund which would provide finance for local projects and organisations.
Mr Williams added: “Banks Developments is recognised within our industry for the emphasis we place on our consultative work and we were pleased with the involvement from the Marr community on this project. Their input is a fundamental part of the planning process and, together with the scoping report, they have helped shape the final submission.”
Should planning permission be granted by Doncaster Council work is expected to start on site next year.
