Wind farm planned for Glenthompson

The small town of Glenthompson, near Dunkheld, has been earmarked for a multi-million dollar wind farm.

A company set up by former CSIRO scientists wants to build up to 43 wind turbines south of the town.

The company has been testing in the area since late 2005 and the Planning Minister has decided no environmental effects statement will be required.

Mark Headland says the project will create up to 80 jobs in and area hit hard by the drought.

“The network that will take the output will require technical upgrades that will help improve the quality of power supply along the Hamilton-Ternag power supply and the spin-off of investment from constructions workers into local businesses,” he said.
