It could be at least two years before a wind farm, cleared for operation by the Land and Environment Court yesterday, will be pumping green energy into the New South Wales electricity grid.
A local community group opposed the development at Taralga on noise and visual grounds, and took the company to court but it was rejected.
The director of renewable energy systems, Colin Liebmann, says the court added some new conditions that may increase the cost of the project.
“Every single aspect has been assessed and there are 106 conditions associated with the approval which basically govern the way that we build and operate the wind farm, so we have to operate within very strict criteria,” he said.
Mr Liebmann says it will be at least another two years before the wind farm is pumping green energy into the grid.
“There’s actually a worldwide shortage of wind turbines at the moment because markets like China and the US are so strong that they’re soaking up all of the supplies of wind turbines,” he said.
“There’s actually a waiting period of 12 to 18 months before we can get turbines.”
