North Tipperary County Council has given the go-ahead for a 22 turbine windfarm in the Moyne area.
Anglo American Lisheen Mining Ltd, with an address at Moyne, Thurles, have been granted permission, subject to 24 conditions, to construct 22 wind turbine generators, access roads, craneage pads, and associated infrastructure. A total of 66 submissions were received on the plans by the company to construct the wind turbines in the townlands of Barnalisheen, Cooleeny, Derryfada, Derryville, and Killoran near Templetuohy.
A spokesperson for Anglo American Lisheen Mining Ltd, has expressed delight at the decision to grant permission for the windfarm. The spokesperson told the Tipperary Star on Tuesday that the company was “very happy” with the conditions laid down by the planning authorities. “Most of the conditions were contained in our own submission, and we were very committed to ensuring that we were one hundred per cent compliant with all new national guidelines laid down by the Department in relation to windfarms” the spokesperson stated.
He added- We submitted a most thorough and robust planning application. It contained a phenomenal amount of information covering all aspects of our plans. We are very pleased with the planners decision, the lifespan of the mines is another five to six years, and our objective is to create a replacement industry on the site.
Anglo American Lisheen Mining Ltd have held a number of public information days in relation to the proposed development. Moyne-Templetuohy Action Group, a group of local residents and land owners formed in opposition to the development of the windfarm, is now expected to appeal the decision to An Bord Pleanala. The group is opposed to the project on what it regards as a number of issues including visual impact, devaluation of properties, health and safety.
