Ashe board to meet Friday on resolution on wind energy

JEFFERSON – The Ashe County Board of Commissioners has called a special meeting for 5 p.m. Friday to consider a resolution regarding wind-energy systems in the county. The meeting will be in the small courtroom on the third floor of the Ashe County Courthouse.

The announcement for Friday’s meeting did not specify what resolution commissioners would consider.

However, commissioners adopted an ordinance to regulate wind-energy systems in the county on Monday, a response to a proposed plan to build a wind farm in Creston. The N.C. Utilities Commission will also conduct a public hearing about the issue in Raleigh on Tuesday. A ruling could take a month or more.

Immediately after Ashe commissioners adopted their ordinance Monday, Commissioner Judy Porter Poe made a motion for a resolution asking the utilities commission to delay its decision for 120 days to give Ashe commissioners more time to study the issue. The motion died for lack of a second.
