A bill introduced Friday in the state Senate would set up a new tax structure for wind farms in West Virginia.
The proposal, from Governor Joe Manchin, limits the amount the wind turbines can be taxed at the low salvage rate for property taxes and also sets up a formula to place B and O taxes on the turbines like other power producing facilities in West Virginia.
The bill says the wind farm companies can earn credit to offset their B and O Tax amount if the owners of the wind farm contribute to community projects.
