Fourth chapter for wind farm saga

Dumfries and Galloway Council is set to decide whether or not to oppose plans for a wind farm in the Glenkens.

It is the fourth time councillors have discussed the 23-turbine scheme at Blackcraig in the Galloway hills.

Their recommendation will be passed to Scottish ministers for a final ruling – but an objection from the council would take the plans to public inquiry.

The authority first considered the Scottish and Southern Energy proposal in September last year.

Decision deferred

The local area committee deferred a decision then due to another nearby application being lodged.

Then in December members of the planning and environment committee agreed to object to the plans.

Two days later, however, a dozen councillors lodged a petition forcing the matter back to the next appropriate committee for further debate.

It was taken back to the planning committee which in turn passed the decision to the full council to deliver the final verdict.
