Council votes against wind farm

Dumfries and Galloway Council has voted to lodge its opposition to plans for a wind farm in the Glenkens.

It was the fourth time councillors had discussed the 23-turbine scheme at Blackcraig in the Galloway hills.

They voted 21 to 14 to object to the plans which are now likely to go to public inquiry because of council opposition to the project.

The authority first considered the Scottish and Southern Energy proposal in September last year.

Decision deferred

The local area committee deferred a decision then due to another nearby application being lodged.

Then in December members of the planning and environment committee agreed to object to the plans.

Two days later, however, a dozen councillors lodged a petition forcing the matter back to the next appropriate committee for further debate.

It was taken back to the planning committee which in turn passed the decision to the full council to deliver its verdict.
