Members of a group campaigning against a windfarm are urging people to sign a petition calling on Tony Blair to withdraw subsidies for onshore turbine developments in “valued landscapes”.
Members of Den Brook Valley Action Group (DBVAG), which has been fighting plans to build nine 394ft tall wind turbines in the valley between North Tawton and Bow, are awaiting the outcome of a public inquiry into the plan, which was held in November.
In the meantime, the group is calling on people to sign an online petition set up by anti-windfarm campaigner Bill Short, from the North of England.
The closing date for the petition is February 23, shortly before the Government publishes its report on the Renewables Obligation, the system which pays subsidies for renewable development.
Muriel Goodman, of DBVAG, said: “If it was not for the subsidies, there would not be the dash-for-cash building of turbines which blight the lives of individuals and communities as well as the landscape.”

In North Cornwall, opponents of a plan to build three 265ft tall wind turbines at Morwenstow have expressed disappointment at a delay in the consideration of the planning application. North Cornwall District Council’s planning committee had hoped to hold a site visit and public meeting this month, but the community centre at Morwenstow is fully booked and the meeting is now to be held at the beginning of March.
