A wind energy conference will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, in the Robert McLaughlin College Center, room 282/283 at Herkimer County Community College.
It is sponsored by Herkimer-Oneida Counties Comprehensive Planning Program and Pace Law School Energy Project.
This session will offer the public an opportunity to learn about the impacts of the industry on communities and provide tools for dealing with advancements.
The event will include a presentation by Arleigh Rice, town of Lowville supervisor, who will offer a perspective into the community effect of a wind farm. Lowville is home to one of the largest wind farms east of the Mississippi River.
New York has four wind farms producing more than 700,000 megawatt hours of power. It is estimated that if our state’s true wind potential was realized, it could satisfy nearly one-quarter of our energy needs.
