A giant wind turbine more than three times the size of Crick’s church spire looks set to get the go ahead nextdoor to the village tonight (Wednesday).
This is despite complaints from three parish councils, numerous neighbours and concerns from Coventry Airport, who believe it may affect its air traffic control system.
The objections also include worries that the device will block out light for residents and that bats and birds could be killed by the rotor blades.
But many other official boards, including Rugby Borough Council, have backed the Tesco’s proposal to build the 90-metre turbine near junction 18 of the M1 to power its distribution centre in DIRFT.
Planning officers at Daventry District Council are due to recommend that councillors approve the plans at tonight’s meeting.
The story caused much debate when the Advertiser reported the plans two weeks ago.

A spokesperson from Coventry Airport said: “Whilst this site does not present an obstacle problem to aircraft and is not under a direct approach flight path for Coventry Airport, it does pose us a problem of the possibility of false radar readings from rotating blades as the presence of just one turbine can give the appearance of a moving target.
“The masking of genuine aircraft returns so close to the airport could create a health hazard.”
But planners at Daventry District Council backed Tesco’s viewpoint that the turbine will be a great step forward to providing the area with renewable energy sources.
