As a keen bird watcher I am a regular visitor to the Knowstone area and was alarmed to discover the proposal to put up massive wind turbines in the Batsworthy Cross area.The area is totally unsuitable for such a development. Has anyone considered how dangerous these structures would be to drivers on the busy A361?
The wildlife is so abundant and diverse in this very special “Culm” area. The bird life up there is wonderful and I have seen flocks of 60-plus golden plovers on more than one occasion in the winter flying over the field where I stumbled across the planning application notice. I am very concerned about the impact these turbines would have on birds (and bats for that matter).
I read something very interesting recently about evidence provided to a House of Lords select committee in October 2003 by a Spanish ecology association.
The document reads: “RSPB’s Fop management is resolutely pro-wind power and they receive between £40 and £80 for each customer switching to Scottish or Southern electricity for their energy supplies.”
If this is indeed the case, I want nothing more to do with the RSPB.
And what about the effect these turbines would have on this beautiful unspoilt landscape?
