Hamlin wind tower meeting Tuesday

HAMLIN – The town’s Wind Tower Committee will hold its first meeting at 7 p.m. tomorrow at Hamlin Town Hall, 1658 Lake Road.

The committee was formed earlier this year to determine whether or not wind towers are in the best interest of the town and to develop regulations appropriate to their determination.

The meeting will be preceded by a presentation of the nine-member committee’s charter, and will include a talk by attorney Daniel Spitzer, who has represented other towns when they developed wind energy regulations.

The town currently has no regulations regarding wind towers.

This fall, Competitive Power Ventures, Inc. installed two meteorological towers in Hilton to study whether the area is suited for wind power development. The towers, located on Redman and Cook roads, will gather wind speed and direction data for up to three years.

According to town documents, if the area is suited for wind energy development, CPV would eventually ask to build 40 to 50 wind towers that would connect to the Route 18 substation.

The Wind Committee will meet on the third Tuesday of every month.

A neighborhood group, the Hamlin Preservation Group, has formed to oppose wind towers in the town.
