Mid-Devon says 'no' to wind farm

Plans for a wind farm at Batsworthy Cross have met the disapproval of Mid Devon District councillors. Their planning committee discussed the scheme, as consultees to plans for nine turbines, near Knowstone, submitted to North Devon District Council by npower renewables.

Council spokesperson Sally Dawe said councillors felt a wind farm would have an unacceptable landscape impact, an adverse effect on tourism and a detrimental impact on residents over a sizeable area.

Ashley Gray, chairman of the Two Moors Campaign, set up to oppose this development, said that councillors had taken an informed and environmentally sensitive decision, adding:

“I very much hope that North Devon District Council and the Exmoor National Park Authority will take note and act to stop the industrialisation of rural Devon.
