With time running out on Beekmantown’s moratorium on wind-power facilities, the Town Council discussed extending the year-long halt on such projects.
“I think we’re all in agreement this is going to take some time to sort out,” said Relation. “It’s going to take a lot longer than April to create a local (zoning) law.”
The moratorium ends on March 27. Without an extension, a wind-power project could be both proposed and possibly erected without regulations to govern it.
Lavorando cautioned that it may require documentation that there is both a need for an extension of time and that the already passed time has not been wasted.
“We’ve been busy,” said Beekmantown Wind Advisory Committee member Michael Morales.
A first-draft document has been circulated amongst the committee and will also require a lawyer’s assistance.
“We wrestled with some of the language and perhaps part of the content to go in there,” said Morales.
“We’re trying to put our town board in a position to rely on the facts.”
The Town Council decided that it was necessary to extend the ban and asked Lavorando to draft a resolution.
Relation also suggested that committee members could use the town facilities for copying, paper and other supplies.
“We view this as a community service and have been caring for this ourselves,” said Morales.
