E.ON UK submits application for wind farm in County Durham

E.ON UK, the British arm of German power giant E.ON, has applied to Sedgefield Borough Council for permission to build its proposed GBP26 million Butterwick Moor wind farm.

The scheme, which would see 10 turbines built around 3.3km north east of Sedgefield, could save almost 44,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere every year, or the equivalent of taking 13,000 cars off the road, E.ON UK said in a statement.

Alex Fornal, project developer at E.ON UK, said: “We obviously believe this is a great site for a wind farm, especially as it’s next door to an already consented wind farm, and we’re hopeful that the council will agree with us.

“It’s certainly worth pointing out that this scheme alone would be able to produce around a third of the 2010 green generation targets for County Durham and 5.5% for the region as a whole.”

The application calls for 10 turbines, rated at between 2MW and 2.5MW, which would be up to 110m tall to blade tip.
