Area will soon create more energy from wind

The Mower County Board approved a permit for a new substation to be built near Grand Meadow.

The new substation will allow for more electricity to be created through the use of wind turbines.

The station will up the voltage being created now from about 34-thousand volts to 161-thousand volts.

“This will gather the wind turbine energy that’s generated on these 61 new wind turbines and then transmit it into the electrical grid for utilization,” says Daryl Franklin, Mower Co. Environmental Services.

Franklin says construction of the substation, three miles of transmission line, and more wind turbines, will begin in April with construction scheduled to be completed by December 2007.
