Conservationists are stepping up their campaign against plans for a wind farm which will be visible from parts of the M62.
The Saddleworth Moors Action Group said the seven 350ft-turbines, plus the additional roads, bridges and other buildings near Denshaw village will damage the landscape and the appearance of the area.
Oldham Council turned down the scheme by nine votes to three and the company behind the proposals, E.on UK Renewables, is to appeal.
Campaigners plan to get legal help on board and have asked the Planning Inspectorate to hold next summer’s public inquiry at Denshaw Village Hall, near the proposed site of the development, so it would be easy for local people to attend.
Chairman David Makin said: “We need to appoint a barrister to make sure we present the strongest possible case against the German energy company E.on, which operates in this country as Powergen.
“We will argue Denshaw Moor is no place for what can only be described as an industrial complex,” he said.
Phil Canning, senior project developer for E.on UK Renewables, said: “We believe Denshaw Moor is an excellent site for a wind farm and have taken great steps to minimise impact on the local community.”
If approved, the turbines could provide enough electricity
to power the equivalent of up to 8,000 homes, which the firm says would save over 30,000 tons of CO2 emissions each year.
