A Shap couple are using the gift of song to battle against plans to build a steel ring’ around Cumbria.
Pauline and Noel Watson started the ball rolling on a ballad designed to show community opposition to the development of wind farms in Shap and around the county.
Having devised the idea, the two members of the Community Opposed to Shap Turbines (COST) protest group enlisted Egremont-based music producer Tom Tyson to take the project forward and create the song, which is entitled No.
Mrs Watson said that her husband came up with the idea and that the song was intended to raise awareness of COST and other similar groups nationwide that were fighting to stop the “devastation” they claimed wind farms caused to the countryside.
“We are on the fringe of the beautiful Lake District and we believe that, in the wrong places, wind farms do more harm than good as they produce little power and require constant back-up.
“What the wind farm companies are proposing to do is build a ring of steel around Cumbria,” she said.
The CD is to go on general sale in a bid to raise funds for campaigns against wind farms. Anyone interested in purchasing a copy should e-mail noel.pauline@btopen world.com.
