Keep lorries off our roads

I am writing regarding the problems Sarah Hemsley-Rose had last week when a wind turbine delivery blocked the road (News & Star, December 9).

I live close to the High Pow wind turbine site and have had problems for months with lorries speeding in convoy to the site and not giving way to vehicles.

These lorries were travelling from Shap which surprised me as wind energy is supposed to help the environment. As many as 80 lorries per day were passing our home.

We do have a stone quarry just down the road at Moota but as the stone is cheaper at Shap the developers guzzled up thousands of unnecessary litres of fuel to save themselves a few pounds (disregarding the planet).

I would like to thank highways for putting a sensible route in place for the lorries before anyone was seriously hurt and thank the police who have now been called several times to deal with aggressive lorry drivers.

But I am looking forward to our roads being safe to drive on again.
