More time for wind farm decision

Planners are seeking an extra month to consider a wind farm proposed for the Galloway hills.

Dumfries and Galloway Council had agreed to lodge its opposition to the Blackcraig development with the Scottish Executive.

But 12 councillors signed a petition to block the move.

The application for the 23-turbine wind farm will now go before either the planning and environment committee or the full council.

The Scottish Executive will have the final say on the application by Scottish and Southern Energy.

A total of 538 objections from all over Britain and as far away as Hong Kong have been received, along with 83 letters from people supporting the application.

Opponents say the 360ft turbines would spoil a scenic area.
