Kincardine residents are voicing their displeasure about the number of wind turbines being set up.
Janice McKean owns a Bed & Breakfast on Highway 21 in Kincardine across from the proposed Cruickshank wind turbine project.
McKean says the Cruickshank project would affect her business as well as the ecosystem.
She says an industrial wind farm is not compatible with the natural surroundings.
McKean told council last night that the move to add more wind turbines without any consultation from the public is unethical.
She also expressed disappointment when Deputy Mayor Laura Haight said under Ontario’s Bill 51, wind turbines are a provincial matter and is not the responsibility of the municipality.
Haight says under Ontario’s official policy statement, the province supercedes us when it comes to planning.
McKean says it is our problem and the matter has to be addressed at a local level.
Andy Robinson from the Goderich area says places in Europe have minimum setbacks of a 1000 meters, in Kincardine it’s only 350.
He says there are health concerns that are connected with wind turbines and is upset that no health studies were conducted in Kincardine.
McKean says she is not against wind turbines.
She says she and her husband have a 1-kilowatt windmill on their farm.
She says what the issue is controlling the number of wind turbines being put up.
