A town council is supporting a planning application to erect three wind turbines on farmland.
Letchworth Garden City Council considered the application made by farmers John and Paul Cherry, of Darmalls Hall Farm in Weston, to erect the turbines on Weston Hills, and made no objection to the plans.
While the decision to grant the application ultimately lies with North Herts District Council, the town council made a positive recommendation to the planning authority.
Town clerk Richard Bowran said: “The town council is keen to support initiatives that will contribute to energy conservation and environmentally friendly projects.”
Including the length of the blades, the turbines will tower 120 metres over the ground.
Together they will generate six MW of electricity – enough to supply around 3,300 homes – and reduce carbon emissions by around 15,300 tonnes per year.
As part of the application process, 26 neighbours have so far been consulted and, to date, five have lodged objections to the plans with NHDC.
The final decision is due to be made by the end of January.
