Planning councillors have been recommended to overturn the verdict of a local area committee and support a 23-turbine wind farm near New Galloway.
The Stewartry Area Committee voted last month to object to the Blackcraig plans by Scottish and Southern Energy.
However, the authority’s planning committee has been advised not to make representations against the scheme, subject to a number of conditions.
A final decision on the proposals will then be made by the Scottish Executive.
Stewartry councillors voted four to three to ask the council to make an objection to the plans.
Adverse impact
They argued that the scheme would have an adverse impact on the “landscape, character and amenity” of the area.
However, that decision has to be backed by the council’s planning committee and officials have recommended it makes no objection.
The scheme has prompted significant levels of objection and support.
More than 500 letters protesting against the plans have been lodged as well as a 500-signature petition backing the scheme.
