More time given on windfarm application

Energiekonton, the firm hoping to build a windfarm in Auchtermuchty, has agreed to give Fife Council extra time to consider its application.

The decision whether or not to approve the five-turbine project is now likely to be made early next year.

The original deadline for a decision passed in November and there had been the possibility of the German-based company going over the local authority’s head straight to the Scottish Executive.

But after the council asked for until the end of the year to put the application to committee, EnergieKontor has now extended that until late February.

“We want to provide Fife Council with additional time for this important decision to be taken locally,” said Guy Wilson, the firm’s director.

“We believe in local democracy prevailing in planning matters so that decisions can be made in a timely fashion having regard to all necessary information.”

As part of the deal to give council planners extra time, a public hearing will take place in the town in January.

Councillors will be given the chance to question the representatives of EnergieKontor, while members of the public, many of whom seem opposed to the project, are likely to turn out in force to air their views.
