D-Day is looming for a controversial windfarm proposal in the Glenkens.
A decision will be made on Tuesday (12th) whether the proposed Blackcraig windfarm should get the go-ahead after local councillors opposed the plans.
Planning and environment services councillors in Dumfries will rule on whether
the full council should back Stewartry councillors and lodage a formal objection with the government, who will have the final say on the matter.
After months of delayed plans and applications, it was widely expected that Stewartry Area Committee would back Scottish and Southern Energy’s 23- turbine 69 megawatt plan scheme at Blackcraig Hill near St John’s Town of Dalry.
But a day of dramatic debate at Kirkcudbright on November 12th ended in a split 3-3 vote – and on the casting vote of chairman Patsy Gilroy the committee lodged its objection to the scheme.
SSE were left “bewildered” by the committee’s decision. Now the council’s planning and environment committee must decide whether to back Stewartry Area Committee’s call – or support their officials’ view that no objections to the controversial proposal be lodged with government.
Should that meeting back the Stewartry committee vote, a lengthy public inquiry could follow – potentially putting SSE off for good.
