Wind turbine plan for supermarket

The second tallest wind turbine in the UK may be built in West Yorkshire.

The 125-metre tower will be constructed in the car park of an Asda supermarket distribution depot in Normanton, if plans are approved.

The turbine would be taller than Big Ben, and only slightly smaller than Blackpool Tower and the London Eye.

Leeds-based Asda say they may face opposition to the plan, but see it as part of their eventual aim to become 100% dependent on renewable energy.

Drawings of the turbine will be on show at the Alice Bacon Community Centre in Normanton on Friday.
