Two developers vying for property in Arkwright

Two wind energy developers are vying for property in the town of Arkwright, according to Chris Cannon, who has taken on the responsibility of chairing the Local Landowners’ Association organized to respond to this operation.

“We’ve formed this group as a means of protecting the landowers who have been approached by Horizon Wind Energy and Noble Environmental Power development companies seeking contracts,” Cannon said.

According to information Cannon said he’s received about this effort, several of these landowners have indicated a willingness to sign on with a developer before they have an attorney review the contract.

“We are concerned about the landowners’ rights in this regard,” Cannon said.

The Local Landowners Association has become official with 12 to 15 members attending meetings since October.

“We welcome new members who can contact me at 672-8875 for additional information,” Cannon said.

He also noted that contracts with both Horizon and Noble aren’t possible, which may give the landowners an edge in this regard.

“There isn’t enough land available in Arkwright to support both operations,” he said.

Horizon and Noble have been officially recruiting landowners since Oct. 26.

When asked about allegations that the Arkwright Town Board members have been contracted regarding these contracts, Cannon said to his knowledge, none have been personally offered to the town board members.
