Pyrenees Shire to assess wind farm plan

An application for a 19-turbine wind farm near Lexton has been submitted to Pyrenees Shire.

WindPower has been talking about plans to build a farm south-west of the town for months.

The farm would generate enough energy to power 16,000 homes each year.

Pyrenees Council’s Stephen Cornish says planning staff will analyse the application before making a recommendation to the council.

“Council staff have to be satisfied that it does meet all of the criteria under the planning scheme and, yes, it is a major task just going through and assessing the application itself, but of course they also have to take on board any submissions that come on board during the advertising period,” he said.
