Learn about the turbines

More than 50 abutters and interested parties spent last Saturday morning, Nov.18, at Town Hall learning more about the Eastham Energy Committee’s proposal to install four large turbines in North Eastham.

Selectman David Schropfer, who was among those attending, told his fellow selectmen Monday, “It was very well attended and we learned a lot about what should be in our request for proposals” when it comes time to solicit bids for the project.

Selectman Martin McDonald, who also attended, told onlookers that the next meeting is for all townspeople, and urged them to show up at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2, to get all the information about this project, which is still in the planning stages.

Fred Fenlon, after the meeting, said the wind turbine proposal “is one of the most significant issues facing Eastham in the next year.” The Nov 18 meeting proved two points, he said. “One, this is a very emotional issue, and two, clearly, the average citizen does not have a very good understanding of the facts and issues of this proposed project.”
