Ceres windfarm test mast wins approval

The proposal for a windfarm in Ceres took a step forward this week after councillors approved an application for a test mast.

The 50-metre mast will be erected on the outskirts of the village at Gathercauld, where German-based firm EnergieKontor hopes to build a 13-turbine windfarm.

Although there is widespread local objection to the scheme, it was made clear in the planners’ report that the application for the anemometer mast was completely separate from a full windfarm submission.

Auchtermuchty councillor, Donald Lothian, whose own ward will shortly be subject to a windfarm application, said it may even be beneficial for local people to see just how high 50 metres was to prepare them for the possibility of wind turbines.

At Tuesday’s meeting of Fife Council’s east area development committee, Councillor Marilyn Whitehead, who represents Ceres, initially wanted to continue the application for a site visit and comprehensive archaeology study.
