MP calls for more energy in search for new power

A call for the Government to explore “vigorously” alternative forms of energy generation that are acceptable to local residents has been made by a Devon MP.

Geoffrey Cox, the Conservative MP for Torridge and West Devon, made his call following a public inquiry’s rejection of a plan to build three 266ft-high wind turbines at Yelland Farm on the edge of Dartmoor National Park.

Mr Cox said he was pleased that the scheme had been rejected at appeal.

“I am delighted that the planners have agreed with the powerful concerns of local people.

“I continue to believe that the construction of massive and relatively inefficient wind turbines in areas so dependent on the quality of the landscape for their economic prosperity is the wrong way to encourage greater production and use of renewable energy.

“I very much hope that the Government will start to explore more vigorously alternative forms of energy generation.”
