TOWN OF MENASHA – The proposed wind turbine demonstration project slated for a review at Wednesday’s Planning Commission meeting may be delayed again.
In September, the commission recommended a 60-day delay regarding a conditional use permit requested for the project at 2225-2235 Northern Road while awaiting engineering details on the structural integrity of the proposed 36 wind turbines mounted on pipes not to exceed 120 feet tall.
Kelly Rousseau of Soul Purpose Ministry Inc., Hortonville, late last week requested another 60-day delay due to a switch in engineering firms.
Town community development officials said the item will remain on the Wednesday’s commission agenda, when the panel could deny the permit due to a lack of information or grant the delay.
Rousseau recently re-submitted the permit application simplifying the request to a demonstration of renewable energies from wind turbines and from solid vegetable oil/diesel generator to produce electricity. The application indicated that the activities will “meet all federal, state and local requirements.”
Rousseau is the owner of ServPro of the Fox Cities, which relocated earlier this fall from Appleton to the former Viking Steel property just off U.S. 41 south of County BB.
Under the plan, the small turbines with 8-foot diameter blades would be mounted on pipes that would rest against the exterior of the former steel company crane bay and be banded together with guy wires gathered in the middle of the structure.
