Residents fighting a wind farm proposal near Lake George, near Canberra, say the local council has moved ahead with the project, despite strong community objection.
They say the development will devalue their land and harm the natural environment.
The $220 million project was approved after the New South Wales Government decided to boost its renewable energy targets.
It will be the largest wind farm in the state, powered by 63 turbines and generating enough energy to supply up to 50,000 homes.
Resident Julie Gray says the Palerang Shire Council has sold out by accepting the plan.
She says it has not considered the environmental costs.
“The Palerang Council – they should have shame on their faces because they have just been bought out,” she said.
“I feel really, really angry about the whole thing because it’s obviously been a done deal right from the beginning and there’s been no consultation whatsoever from anybody.”
“It’s going to devastate this whole area and devastate the wildlife. We have wedgetail eagles living in this area that have been here for nearly 40 years.”
