Wind turbines continue to be an attractive alternative energy source for communities all across the region.
Now, another municipality is taking a long hard look at the pros and cons of wind farms.
The Blair County Board of Commissioners was expected Thursday to vote on a plan that could bring windmill facilities to a portion of the county.
Windmills can currently be found in Cambria and Somerset Counties, but there are currently none in Blair County.
If approved, the ordinance will limit windmill facilities to the southwest corner or Logan Township between Horseshoe Curve and Route 36.
The ordinance would require permits and land development plans for construction before any windmill company would receive approval to build in Logan Township.
Some residents are concerned about the placement of the wind turbines. The proposed ordinance requires nearly 1/2 mile of land to sit between a turbine and any landowner that does not approve of the windmills.
Wind turbines would be set back at lest 3,000 feet from the Horseshoe Curve National Historic Landmark.
