Banner-waving campaigners against plans to build nine massive wind turbines close to Exmoor will today hand in to planners a dossier detailing their opposition to the proposal.
The document will be delivered by members of the Two Moors Campaign, which is fighting proposals to build nine 360ft high turbines at Batsworthy Cross on the southern fringe of Exmoor.
The campaign group will hand in a dossier at the Civic Centre in Barnstaple which they claim shows shortcomings in the public consultation carried out for the application by npower renewables.
The dossier lists shortcomings in the power firm’s literature, problems with exhibition material and a refusal to put up a helium blimp to demonstrate the height of the turbines.
Campaign chairman Ashley Gray said: “The consultation lacked detail, accuracy and clear information. These giant power companies have made vast exaggerations of the carbon dioxide savings possible and undervalued the impact on the landscape and people’s livelihoods from this industrialisation.
“We support renewables on a realistic and suitable scale for Devon’s unique environment. Giant and inefficient wind turbines are not the answer to our 21st century energy needs”
The Two Moors Campaign is currently distributing leaflets highlighting its objections to the proposed turbines. Under the banner “Size Matters”, the campaign has been alerting residents to the proportions of the turbines, three times larger than St Mary’s Church in South Molton and the Venhay radio mast near Rose Ash.
