Windfarm plans thrown out

Bilsthorpe and Eakring residents are celebrating after plans to build a windfarm between the two villages were thrown out last night.
Newark & Sherwood district councillors rejected the proposal to put up seven turbines at two locations – the former Bilsthorpe Colliery site and Stonish Hill near Eakring.
At a meeting on Tuesday, planning chiefs said the determined campaign by protestors from the Eakring Turbine Action Group and Bilsthorpe Residents Against Turbines played a key part in their decision.
But it also emerged that objections from the Ministry of Defence (MOD) about a possible impact on radar services for civilian and military flights had been crucial in the decision to throw out the plans.
Said Coun Allen Tift: “I am in favour of renewable energy but unfortunately this is the right application at the wrong site.”
