SA wind farm construction at second stage

Construction has started for the second stage of the Lake Bonney wind farm in south-eastern South Australia.

SA Energy Minister Patrick Conlon has attended a ceremony marking the installation of the first of 53 wind turbines.

Mr Conlon says the wind farm is essential to meeting the state’s renewable energy target.

Babcock and Brown Wind Partners spokesman Geoff Dutaillis says the latest work is important to the company’s Australian operations.

“It basically triples the size of the Lake Bonney wind farm when it’s finished,” he said.

“It’s got 35 kilometres of high voltage cable linking the turbines together, almost 10 swimming pools worth of concrete in the foundations.

“It’s a big wind farm, a big operation.”
