Planners look set to green-light the first stage of the development of Norfolk’s latest windfarm next week, after receiving far fewer complaints than had been expected.
Green energy firm Enertrag UK wants to put a meteorological mast in a field close to Hempnall, near Norwich, to see if the area generates enough wind for seven turbines.
When the initial scoping exercise was announced earlier this summer, it provoked a storm of reaction from villagers, who said it would blight their property.
But with the application for the mast set to be debated on Tuesday by South Norfolk Council’s south-west plann-ing committee, only one letter of objection has been received from residents.
Other objections have come from Hempnall Parish Council and district councill-or Michael Windridge.
Planning officers say the proposed site is in a “very rural” location, at least 850m from any homes, and the mast will only be visible in the distance.
