Industrialization of our Mountaintops by wind turbines is taking place throughout the state.
This is being done secretly to prevent adjacent landowners from knowing and fighting the issue. Wind companies, rich in subsidizes, and without regulation are destroying Pennsylvania’s most scenic and wild ridge tops.
Wind is not clean and green, as they would like us to believe. It is destructive to wildlife, with blades rotating at 150 mph serving as guillotines for birds and bats. Turbine footprints, access roads and clearings will fragment the forest only to be followed by “no trespassing signs” for hunters and hikers. We have learned from the coal industry that regulation is essential with large scale development.
Don’t let wind companies get away without regulation. Wind turbines are very, very inefficient and will do little to help our energy problem, reduce the need for coal generated energy, or curb global warming. What will work is a statewide energy conservation program in addition to common sense in siting wind turbines. Appropriate places would include urban settings and industrial parks.
