We'll take windfarm fight right to the top

Furious protestors opposed to a windfarm in Auchtermuchty have vowed to fight tooth and nail against the proposal.

As revealed in last week’s Fife Herald, developer EnergieKontor will soon have the option to by-pass Fife Council and force a decision on its controversial application from the Scottish Executive.

But campaign group Auchtermuchty Landscape and Environment said it wouldn’t shy away from fighting the application for five turbines at a higher level.

“Let EnergieKontor and the landowner be clear on this matter,” said Graeme Whyte, the organisation’s vice chairman.

“If they force the application to appeal with the Scottish Executive, then we will simply take our fight against this monstrous industrial development there.”

The deadline for the local authority to decide on the windfarm will pass on November 4, but the application was not on the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting of the east area development committee.

EnergieKontor chiefs will meet early next month to decide whether or not to appeal to Holyrood on the grounds of non-determination, though it is possible they will grant council planners an extension.

“EnergieKontor, an international development company has had months, if not years to develop and lodge its planning application.,” said Mr Whyte.

“We have a clear mandate of support from 75 per cent of those surveyed in Auchtermuchty – we will not let these people down.”
