Energy companies are being actively encouraged to set up wind farms in the north of the county

There are already plans for at least four more wind farms to add to the one already up and running at Burton Wold, near Kettering.
Many more of the eco-friendly power generators could be built as borough and district councils begin identifying sites and encouraging power companies to build the wind farms.
Plans have been submitted, or are due to be submitted, for 46 wind turbines at four separate locations in the county or close to its borders and it may not be long before more schemes are put forward.
It is estimated that a total of 120 turbines the size of those at Burton Wold would provide enough power for all 133,000 homes in north Northamptonshire.
Kettering Council leader Cllr Terry Freer said: “There’s no doubt that our wind farm has created interest and we are intending to look at sites for building more. What we have to do is look around for more sites.
“We already know that three-quarters of the people in Kettering support wind power because we conducted a poll.
“It’s a question of finding the right place for them.”
Some councils in the north of the county are set to install small turbines on civic buildings while individuals are also being encouraged to buy their own turbines from DIY stores.
County council cabinet member for the environment Cllr Ben Smith said: “Wind farms are brilliant as long as they are situated out of town where there is no landscape impact.
“We are also urging people to using more micro wind turbines at their homes.”
All of the local authorities in our area ““ Corby, Kettering, Wellingborough, East Northamptonshire and the county council ““ have signed the Nottingham Declaration, which commits them to finding environmentally-friendly ways of generating electricity.
But not everyone is wholly in favour of the wind farms. Campaign group Bozeat and Lavendon Oppose Turbines was set up to protest against npower renewable’s plans to set up a large wind farm with at least 14 turbines, near Bozeat.
Chairman Brian Skittrall said: “I think they are valuable in the right place.
“But there’s so much money to be made that every place they can put turbines they want to put in as many as possible.
“A lot of people find them noisy and a blot on the landscape.”
Bee Bee Developments proposed building a wind farm in Corby, near Rockingham motor racing circuit, but the plan has been put on the backburner .
