Residents in north Northumberland are being given another chance to comment on plans to build the region’s most powerful wind farm at Middlemoor.
npower renewables has re-advertised the application after submitting further information to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
The company wants to build 18 turbines on the site near North Charlton.
The closing date for comments to the DTI, which will determine the application,is Thursday, November 9.
Clare Wilson, company regional development manager, said: “We have re-advertised the application after submitting further information about the project.
“This follows archaeological trial trenching we were asked to carry out on the site.
“This is standard practice for the environmental impact assessment process.”
She added: “However it means that the consultation window re-opens and it offers those who wish to make a comment about the wind farm the opportunity to do so.
“A wind farm at Middlemoor is capable of meeting the average annual electricity needs of over 27,000 homes, that’s enough to power every home in both Alnwick and Berwick with clean, pollution free electricity.”
Earlier this year most of the 180 people who attended a meeting in Alnwick were opposed to the proposals.
Dominic Coupe, of opposition group Stop the Turbines, said: “We welcome another consultation period but if that consultation period was a bit longer it would give people a better chance to look at it.”
He said the information was “very complicated”.
Alnwick District Council’s development control committee was due to discuss the application in March.
The district council with the North East Assembly and Northumberland County Council have commissioned a landscape capacity assessment study of the site and those earmarked west of Berwick.
It is hoped the meeting will be held in the new year.
People can view the supplementary information at the district council’s offices at Allerburn House, Alnwick, the town’s library, Alnwick mobile library and County Hall, Morpeth.
