The Irish Independent quotes sources close to Airtricity as saying that the renewable energy company is planning to invest about €1.9 billion in wind projects across Canada over the next four years.
The paper says the investment will be channelled through Gale Force Energy (GFE), a Canadian energy group acquired by Airtricity yesterday for a sum believed to be around $10m.
Airtricity, which is already building wind farms in New York and Texas, acquired the company from Romspen Investment Corporation, an Ontario-based mortgage provider. GFE has about 30 wind projects with the potential to produce 4,000 mw of electricity under various stages of development.
