Revised plans for a wind farm in the northern Rhins are to go on display in Portpatrick next month.
It will be the second time Wind Energy has hosted a public exhibition of their scheme, earmarked for Craigenlee Fell and Broad Moor south of Knockquhassen resevoir near Stranraer.
Wind Energy say the exhibition, to be held on November 3 and 4 will provide the local community with an opportunity to see how their proposals have progressed since the first exhibition in August.
The company say they will explain how comments received since then have been addressed in the new design and layout of the wind farm.
In addition, findings from an extensive range of environmental impact assessment studies will be presented.
Wind Energy’s North Rhins proposal comprises 11 turbines with a combined capacity of 22MW.
The company say wind farm “will help supply” almost 15,377 homes with clean electricity and will contribute towards the Scottish Climate Change Programme’s targets of generating 18% of electricity from renewable energy sources by 2010 and 40% by 2020.
The company has substantially altered the proposal after taking local comments and environmental assessment findings on board, according to company chiefs.
The overall height of the turbines proposed was reduced from around 125m to 102m and have been reduced further to around 100m. The proposal has also been amended to reduce landscape, visual and noise impacts.
Mike Davies, Managing Director of Wind Energy (North Rhins) Ltd, said: “We have devoted a lot of time to ensure that the proposal is appropriate for the area. We were pleased with the positive response to our first exhibition and it is important to us that we continue to engage with the local community so that we can explain the recent changes and respond to any further concerns that may exist.
“I would like to encourage local people to attend as the feedback we receive will influence the final design of the wind farm and helps us to be good neighbours to the other community members.
“The Environmental Impact Assessment work for the proposal is nearing completion and the exhibition will provide an opportunity for us to share the findings of those studies.
“Once more visitors will be able to view computer-generated images showing how the wind farm will look within the existing landscape.
He added: “We’re particularly pleased to be able to show images with the latest software providing realistic landscapes. The project team will be available to guide visitors through the exhibition and to answer any questions about the project.”
The public exhibition will take place on Friday 3 November (10am – 8pm) and Saturday 4 November (10am – 4pm) at Portpatrick Hall, Portpatrick.
