Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh Twp. residents continue to express their concerns with regards to the proposed setback regulations for wind turbines in the municipality.
Council received a letter at their Oct. 2 meeting, signed by several Carlow area residents who stated that they “are in opposition to the proposed bylaw amendment to implement regulatory provisions for large scale wind energy facilities.”
Township resident Anne Marie Howard also submitted a letter to council expressing her opinion about the impact that wind turbines will have on the future options of adjacent landowners, setting larger setbacks for future windmills to address existing noise problems, and compensation for landowners who have been negatively impacted by adjacent windmills.
However, council did receive a letter from township resident Paul Carroll, commending the township for their progressive action taken toward the establishment of wind farms in the municipality. Carroll said “their growing presence represents one view that says your municipality is on the forefront of a new, clean, renewable energy future.”
Reeve Ben Van Diepenbeek said council is trying to gather as much research as possible before setting the setback regulations for the wind turbines. He said anyone with information on wind turbines and research on health issues related to the turbines is welcome to submit it to the township.
“We need to hear the good and the bad to make an informed decision,” he said.
