The Aquidneck Island Planning Commission will hold a wind energy forum Thursday, Oct. 26, from 5-8 p.m. at the Atlantic Beach Club, 55 Purgatory Road.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will present the pros and cons of wind power as well as discussing past, present and future wind energy initiatives and prospects for Aquidneck Island.
The keynote speaker will be Sally Wright, a research fellow and staff engineer at the Renewable Energy Research Laboratory at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where she is involved with various aspects of wind power, including technical support to communities, statewide wind resource assessment, permitting and assessing feasibility for both inland and island sites.
Erich Stephens, executive director of People’s Power & Light, Rhode Island’s nonprofit energy consumers’ alliance, will review wind energy projects in Rhode Island and Aquidneck Island.
Wind energy and turbine displays will be exhibited by Ocean State Wind, Lorax Energy Systems, Boreal Renewable Energy Development, New Wind Energy and William P. Saslow, an engineer from Raytheon Co. in Portsmouth.
Refreshments will be provided courtesy of the Atlantic Beach Club.
