Turbines for a wind farm on Hameldon Hill are to arrive in several large lorry loads over the next fortnight.
Work is set to start on Monday to build three wind turbines, which will be assembled on the hill overlooking Burnley, and for which the blades alone are 40m. long.
The company responsible for building the windfarm, npower Renewables, sought guidance from Burnley Council on how to best carry out transportation to the site, and they say deliveries will be programmed to minimise disturbance to weekday traffic.
Planning permission for the wind farm was granted in March 2004 by Burnley Borough Council and as it has an installed capacity of less than five megawatts (4.5 megawatts) it did not require a full environmental impact assessment.
Mr Martin Kelly, project manager for npower Renewables, said: “This is a challenging project due to the size of the components. “We are right on schedule and hoping for some good weather over the next month in order that the turbines can be erected safely.”
The three-turbine project is expected to produce enough green electricity to meet the average annual electricity needs of some 2,400 homes.
