Windfarm developer rejects roads agreement

Plans for a Woodford County wind farm may have hit a pothole.

According to a spokesperson for the windfarm developer, Navitas Energy, the company is planning to reject a road agreement from Panola, Green and Clayton townships.

Navitas said the disagreement is over who is responsible if there there is a lawsuit.

This is the eighth draft the company has hammered out with the townships.

Woodford County leaders are concerned the company may decide it’s too much of a hassle to come to the area.

“I will tell you in no uncertain terms, that talking to the managing director for Navitas this morning,” said Woodford County Administrator Gregory Jackson. “He made it clear – how many times can we do this? How many times can we jump through hoops? Is this is a viable option. There is a cost of doing business and this may not be the cost of doing business.”

A lawyer for the townships said the entities want to make sure they aren’t responsible for what the wind farm does in relation to the roads.

The townships are holding a special meeting on the road agreement tomorrow at 9 a.m. at the Panola Township Hall at 313 Iowa St. in El Paso, Illinois.
