County board OKs wind farm permits

The Henry County Board Tuesday approved 266 special use permits for Invenergy’s wind farm on an 18-0 voice vote Tuesday. The Chicago-based firm would locate the turbines on farmland in six townships from Galva to Woodhull.

Board members noted that permits for the second of three wind farms – 135 permits for CPV (Commercial Power Ventures) – are set to be on the Nov. 14 agenda.

CPV will hold an open house from 1 to 3 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Geneseo Community Center; formal planning committee and zoning board of appeals hearings will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16 and Wednesday, Oct. 18, respectively,. at the Henry County Courthouse, in Cambridge.

The board also voted 11-8 Tuesday not to pursue raising building fees in unincorporated parts of the county.

Finance committee chairman Jesse Crouch said he didn’t know if it would actually raise revenue, as the zoning office can’t do its work without a lot of comp time.

It was noted the planning and development committee could review the matter at any time, but asking them to do so would be tantamount to asking for a recommendation.
